James V. “Jim” Proffitt, 76, of Decatur, TN, died on Monday, April 14, 2014.

He was born in McMinn County, but grew up and lived most of his life in Meigs County. He was a patriot who loved his country and served in the Air force. He loved The Lord and all creations. Jim was a family man who was devoted to his mother, wife, daughter and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Emma Allene Proffitt; brothers, Phillip, Earl and Joe Proffitt; half-sister Bernice; and grandchild, Seth Larson.

Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patsy (Clayton) Proffitt, of Dunlap; daughter, Madeline Keener and her husband Michael, of Soddy Daisy; step-daughter, Marie Horton Larson, of Dunlap; brother, Ned Proffitt and his wife Joyce, of Decatur; sisters, Lynn Chapman, of Harrison and Margaret Nye, of Cleveland; grandchildren, Lane Moore, Abigail Keener and Noah Keener, of Soddy Daisy.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the chapel of the funeral home with interment to follow in the Decatur cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 16 at the Bowers Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
