Joel Stephen “Steve” Hegwood, 75, of Menlo, Georgia, died on Monday, December 15, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Hegwood was born July 14, 1939 in LaFayette, the son of the late William Forrest Hegwood and Addie Lou Williams Hegwood.  Mr. Hegwood was owner and operator of Hegwood Used Cars, and a truck driver.  He was a member and deacon of Menlo First Baptist Church. He was a member of Alpine Masonic Lodge #211.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Bill McGill; brother, Ross Hegwood; and a nephew, Barry Hegwood.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Crain Hegwood; daughters, Carol E. “Beth” Hegwood Shaw and Shelly Ann Hegwood Ramsey and Jim Ramsey; brothers, Danny Hegwood, Tim Hegwood, and Mark Hegwood; grandchildren, Michael Heath Barnett, Sally Reed Kerce and Christopher Kerce, Cathryn Alivia Shaw; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kenny Roach and Reverend Billy Dempsey officiating.  Masonic rites will also be performed by Alpine Lodge #211. Honorary pallbearers will be D C Schrader, Joe Reed, Terry Day, Billy Joe Dooley, Wayne Pritchett, all members of the Alpine Lodge #211 and all other Masonic Brothers.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, at Mason Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
