UTC Men Host Northern Kentucky Tuesday

Fresh from a Southern Conference road win at The Citadel (67-48)  last Thursday, the Chattanooga men's basketball team returns to its non-conference schedule with a home game Tuesday against Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. at McKenzie Arena.

The Mocs (5-5) are 16-3 at home under second year head coach Will Wade and leads the series with the Norse, 7-4. NKU (4-5 and 1-3 on the road this year) defeated UTC,87-71, last year.

Mocs Leaders: Casey Jones leads the Mocs in scoring (12.8 ppg) along with Ronrico White (9.6) while Justin Tuoyo leads in rebounding (6.0)

NKU is led by Tayler Persons in points (10.3), rebounds (4.3), assists (3.0) and steals (1.5).

NEXT UP
There are two more games prior to the holiday break. The Mocs have back-to-back Conference USA matchups at Middle Tennessee (Dec. 19) and hosting UAB (Dec. 22). Both contests broadcast on ASN.

- The Mocs plays its final four regular season, non-conference contests the remainder of December. Three of the four - Northern Kentucky (12/16), UAB (12/22) and Lipscomb (12/29) are at home. The other is a short 104-mile trip up I24 to Middle Tennessee.

HEAD COACH WILL WADE
- Head Coach Will Wade is 23-20 in his second season as a head coach. He is 0-1 against Northern Kentucky.

- Wade is 16-3 at home, 6-15 away and 1-2 in neutral site contests in his career.

- Wade is 13-4 in SoCon contests, 8-1 at home, 5-3 away.

FOR STARTERS
- Chattanooga is looking to win its third straight for the first time this season.

- The quartet of Casey Jones, Justin Tuoyo, Ronrico White and Greg Pryor account for 58.1 percent (409 of 704) of the Mocs scoring output.

- It’s a balanced attack with the four ranging from 9.2 to 12.8 points per game.

- After allowing 86 points to Georgia, the Mocs defense surrendered 98 points in the last two games including 48 at The Citadel. It was the second time this season (Robert Morris, 46) UTC limited a DI opponent to fewer than 50 points.

- Tuoyo paces the SoCon in blocks (3.3/gm). He has nine multi-block games in 10 total contests this season. His six against Coastal Carolina and last Thursday at The Citadel is his career high.

- Pryor had a career-high six steals in last Monday’s win and two more at The Citadel on Thursday. He ranks seventh in the SoCon averaging 1.8 per game.

- There are a trio of Mocs ranked among the league leaders in 3pt percentage. Eric Robertson is seventh in the SoCon in 3pt percentage at 45.2 percent (14-31). Pryor is 11th at 42.4 percent (14-33), while White checks in at 40.4 percent (19-47). White is also 15th in 3pt made per game (1.9).

STATS STAT!  
- Tuoyo has 26 blocks over the last six games (4.3/gm). Four of those games included four or more (CCU, KSU, Montreat, The Citadel), while the other two (Georgia and Robert Morris) he had three.

- White has just three turnovers in his last six games (171 minutes). That’s good for a 5.7-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

- Robertson is on a hot streak from long range making six of his last 10 including last Monday’s four-for-six performance. It was the second time this season he’s hit four in a game (Butler, 4-5). The 6-10 followed a 1-10 stretch after the Butler game.

- The Mocs are shooting 51.4 percent (18-35) from 3pt range over the last two contests. The team was shooting 30.0 percent (48-160) in the eight games prior. This stretch has pushed the 3pt percentage to 33.8.

- Chattanooga shot 53.5 percent (69-129) overall over the past two games after a 40.9 percent start over the first eight. Field goal percentage has increased to 43.8 percent.

SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY
- 4-5, 1-3 on the road.

- Four wins include North Carolina A&T, Ohio Mid-western, Idaho and UC Clermont. The lone road win was at Idaho.

- One common opponent: Wisconsin. The Norse lost 62-31 at the Badgers two nights before the Mocs lost 89-45.

- Head Coach Dave Bezold is in his 11th year with the Norse. He is 185-121.

- Former Chattanooga forward Jared Bryant is a junior at NKU. He has played in four games so far.

- The Norse average 66.9 points per game while limiting opponents to 65.7.

- 3rd in the Atlantic Sun Conference in FG% Defense (41.9) and 3pt% Defense (29.2).

- Tayler Persons leads NKU in several stat categories including points (10.3), rebounds (4.3), assists (3.0) and steals (1.5) per game.
