Christian Harrington of Walker County has been chosen to represent Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) at the EAGLE Leadership Institute March 16-18, in Atlanta.
The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs.
“As the winner and GNTC delegate to the statewide Leadership Institute, Christian Harrington exemplifies the purpose of the Adult Education program,” said Connie Smith, vice president of Adult Education at GNTC.
“Despite difficult circumstances, he has achieved his goal of earning a GED® diploma, is now employed, actively involved in his community, and plans to continue his education.”
Mr. Harrington attended adult education classes at the Rossville Adult Literacy Center and was nominated for the EAGLE award by Kali Ratcliff. He received his General Educational Development® diploma in October and is currently employed at Sign-A-Rama in East Ridge, Tennessee.
Six other nominees were named as county representatives and will serve for a year as ambassadors for their adult learning centers in an effort to encourage other adults to take advantage of educational opportunities.
The other nominees and county winners are Rita Lee Hammond (Polk), Tiffany Miller (Floyd), Lilia Ordones (Whitfield), Kimberly Riddle (Catoosa), Alejandro Sanchez, Jr. (Murray), and Amy Thrift (Gordon).
“We are so proud of our county winners who competed for the EAGLE award,” said Smith “The instructors had outstanding nominees.”
EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education) is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.
