Katherine Broome
Katherine Rawlings Broome, 97, of the Burning Bush Community of Ringgold, died on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 with her family by her side.
Mrs. Broome was born on Oct. 28, 1917, in Chattanooga to the late John Thomas and Mary Virginia Rawlings. She was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1935, and that year was chosen as May Queen. Her membership with Ridgedale United Methodist Church began at a young age and continued with the merging of East Ridge United Methodist Church where she was active in the UMW. Mrs. Broome enjoyed working in her yard, cooking for her family, camping, tending to her many feline friends, and was very involved in the Burning Bush Community Club, a community that she loved for the past 68 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Garnett Andrew Broome, brother, Weldon Rawlings, and sisters, Johnnie Allen and Elizabeth Lowery.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia (Charles) Ward, and Mary Sue Gilbert, all of Ringgold; sister, Geraldine Hester, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Karen Ward (Todd) Hartman, Kim Ward (Curtis) Dempsey, Kathy Gilbert (Lenny) Wilson, Kari Gilbert (Brian) Owens, Kristie Gilbert (Jason) Armour, all of Ringgold, and Conner “Rip” (Esther Ruth) Gilbert, St. Cloud, Fl.; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 29, at 11 a.m. at Burning Bush Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Ken Sauer officiating.
