31 Baylor Students Participate In SHS Model UN

  • Monday, November 24, 2014

Baylor sent 29 delegates to the Southeastern High School Model United Nations conference, held Nov. 20-22 at the Chattanoogan Hotel. In addition to the delegates, Baylor senior Aman Madan served as secretary general and senior Marie Thibault-Messier served as undersecretary general.

SHSMUN is a Model UN conference completely organized by high school students. Unique to SHSMUN, students write topic papers and chair their own committees. SHSMUN delegates participate in comprehensive debates in more than ten committees ranging from Disarmament to SHSMUN’s own General committee.

Aside from the competition, in which Baylor placed second in 2013, delegates meet, debate, and befriend other high schoolers from across the state of Tennessee and southeastern United States. While most conferences are dropping General Assembly - where all committees come together to debate all resolutions - SHSMUN embraces General Assembly to promote leadership and public speaking skills among delegates, said officials.

Delegates from Baylor were Andrew Butt '18, Grace Carlson '16, Parker Catlett '16, Peter Ceren '17, June Cho '16, Linus Cho '18, Steven Crews '15, Emily Culp '15, Rose Dallimore '18, Colton Duncan '16, Sophia Guan '18, Mary Drue Hall '17, Mary Blair Horner '18, Lynn Jiang '17, Vera Jin '18, Jamie Kessler '17, Sharon Kim '15, Anthony Kranis '18, Eleanor Lee '18, Christine Lee '16, Liam Pinson '15, Anders Pokela '15, Brandon Townsend '16, Roderick Wang '16, Charlie Weeks '17, Ben Workinger '18, Andrew Yan '16, Liam Zhang '18, and Sean Zhang '15.
