Developers said work will start next year on a boutique hotel by the Walnut Street Bridge after members of the Chattanooga City Council approved the re-zoning of the site.
It is set to open in 2016.
Located in the Arts District on Walnut Street, the 90-room hotel will provide amenities appealing to the modern traveler while paying homage to the city’s history and connection to the arts, officials said.
Mitch Patel, president and CEO of Vision Hospitality Group, said he spent the past few months meeting with area neighbors and stakeholders to provide information and receive input about the project. He said, "The result was a hotel that meets the desires of the community as well as the needs of the developer."
Mr.
Patel said, “Chattanooga is very important to our company. Because it’s our home, it’s even more important that we provide a hotel experience unlike any other. We want our guests to have an authentic Chattanooga experience that features locally sourced food, and products that are unique to Chattanooga; our vision is to provide a superlative experience for our guests.”
Mr. Patel said the five-story structure will offer rooftop amenities, an art collection, restaurant and patio dining, valet parking, and implementation of best practices and technology in the industry. While the working name for the project is ‘The Walnut Street Boutique Hotel’, he said an announcement will be forthcoming about the hotel’s official name as marketing efforts commence.
Along with the jobs created during the construction phase of the project, once open, the hotel will provide 50 full and part-time local jobs.
