Happy Birthday, Chattanooga! Nov. 15
The grand finale of the
City of Chattanooga's 175th birthday week will be a celebration in Coolidge Park on
Sat., Nov. 15, from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The public is invited to come listen to live folk, jazz and rock music, play on inflatable games, touch a truck and cut the giant Moon Pie birthday cake.
CHA175 Birthday Bicycle Ride Nov. 15
The City of Chattanooga's Transportation Dept. will host a guided bicycle tour through city neighborhoods and parks on
Sat., Nov. 15, from
1-3 p.m. Starting at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park, the 12-mile route will travel through the heart of the city, highlighting neighborhoods and parks. Recommended for adults and older children when accompanied by an adult. BYO-bike, borrow one, or rent an electric bike.

Rapid Learning Winter Kayak Skills Practice Nov. 12
Outdoor Chattanooga's Rapid Learning Whitewater Program will continue winter kayak skills practice on Tues., Nov. 12, with two sessions: 7 and 8 p.m., at the Southern Adventist University Hulsey Wellness Center's indoor pool. Join the practice to keep your whitewater kayak skills sharp during your winter break from paddling. A $2 admission fee applies to the center's pool. Street Smarts Nov. 17
Learn a few tips and tricks for driving your bicycle in traffic at our next free, Street Smarts Cycling Class, happening on Mon., Nov. 17, 6 p.m. at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park. We'll cover traffic laws, rules of the road for cyclists and answer your questions about potentially hazardous situations. No bicycle necessary. Pre-registration required. Orchard Knob History Tour
by Bicycle Nov. 22
On the Outdoor Chattanooga and Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a free, neighborhood bicycle tour of the Orchard Knob Reservation and the National Cemetery on Sat., Nov. 22, 1 p.m., beginning from the Warner Park Fitness Center. Interpretive Ranger Christopher Young will share stories from the Battle of Orchard Knob, which happened 151 years ago on Nov. 23. Bring your own bicycle or borrow from the Outdoor Chattanooga mobile bicycle fleet (riders 5' tall or over). Grant Funding for Nature Based Playgrounds
In partnership with the American Water Charitable Foundation (AWCF), the National Recreation and Parks Assoc.(NRPA) has announced the continuation of grants in the Building Better Communities program. Grants are awarded in the range of $50,000 to $150,000 for projects creating natural play areas, nature-based playgrounds and water stewardship messaging. Chattanooga and communities within a 30-mile radius of the city are eligible to apply. Communities must be served by American Water. AWCF awarded NRPA $2.5 million to work with local communities on these types of projects over a five year period. This request for applications is for grant projects taking place in 2015. Applications will be accepted until December 5, 2014.
Sunbelt Bakery Ironman 70.3: Registration Opens Nov. 18
Registration opens on Tues., Nov. 18, 12 noon, for the Sunbelt Bakery Ironman 70.3, the newest endurance event to adopt Chattanooga. The event, which features a 1.2 mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1 mile run, will take place on Sun., May 17, 2015 at Ross' Landing.

5K Run to Remember Nov. 15
The Alzheimer's Association hosts the
5K Run to Remember on
Sat., Nov. 15, at the TN Riverpark. Funds raised help the organization's efforts to support those who have Alzheimer's and the people who care for them. Registration begins at
7:30 a.m. Run begins at 9.
Pangorge: TN River Gorge Adventure Race Nov. 22
The newest challenge for Chattanooga area outdoor athletes will happen on
Sat., Nov. 22 with
Pangorge: the Tennessee River Gorge Adventure Race. 100 racers will paddle the TN River, run the Pot Point Trail and mountain bike around and down Raccoon Mtn. before collapsing back in Chattanooga. Keep your eyes peeled if you are on the river or on the trails.
