Here are upcoming news and events from Outdoor Chattanooga:

Fireside at Greenway Oct. 9 - Jazzanooga 
Outdoor Chattanooga will continue our popular Fireside at Greenway Farm series with jazz and blues from Jazzanooga, this Thurs., Oct.
9, 7 to 9 p.m.
at the City of Chattanooga's Greenway Farm,
5051 Gann Store Rd., in Hixson. Bring kids, blankets and something to roast over the fire. Next Fireside: Thurs., Oct. 16 with Lou Wamp and the Bluetastics.

Open Canoeing - Before the Fireside Program
Rent a canoe on Fireside evenings, from 6 to 7 p.m., for a family paddle on N. Chickamauga Creek. Cost is $20 per canoe. No reservations are necessary. Just show up and paddle. Outdoor Chattanooga will provide all equipment. Infants and small toddlers need to bring their own life jackets.

Downtown History Tour by Kayak Oct. 14
The Chattanooga History Center (CHC) will partner with Outdoor Chattanooga to offer a special sunset kayak tour of downtown Chattanooga on Tues., Oct. 14, beginning at 6 p.m. from our facility in Coolidge Park. The special event will be led by a CHC historian, Caroline Sunderland, who will share the ups and downs of the city's commercial and environmental history. The beginner friendly tour will launch up river for a leisurely float into the sunset and twinkling city lights. Cost is $45 per adult, $35 for kids ages 8-13. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Camp Chair Cinema Oct. 16
The Crossing
The Lookout Wild Film Festival andRvrRox will co-host a free, public screening of The Crossing, on Thurs., Oct. 16, 7 p.m., at the Renaissance Park Circle Amphitheater. The Crossing is an account of two very exuberant, young Australians who attempt, twice, to cross Canada's Victoria Island by foot. BYO-Camp chair, picnic blanket and beverages. We'll provide the popcorn. In case of rain, the screening will happen indoors at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park.

Chickamauga Battlefield Bicycle Tour Oct. 18
Enjoy historical stories of the Civil War while bicycling through Chickamauga Battlefield on Sat., Oct. 19, at 9:30 a.m. Hosted by the Friends of Outdoor Chattanooga and the Friends of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, this free event is available to adults and children ages 8 and older when accompanied by an adult. Bring your own bicycle or borrow one from the Outdoor Chattanooga Mobile Bicycle Fleet. Helmets are required. To reserve a bicycle, call(706)-866-9241.

Street Smarts Cycling Class Oct. 20
Cars, pedestrians, busses, on ramps, intersections, turn lanes, traffic lights . . . how do you deal with all these things when you're on a bicycle? Street Smarts Cycling Class is the best first step towards learning how to drive your bicycle in traffic. Hosted by Outdoor Chattanooga, this free class happens at 6 p.m., on Mon., Oct. 20 at Outdoor Chattanooga, 200 River St. in Coolidge Park. Reservations are required and can be made by emailing Outdoor Chattanooga or calling (423)-643-6888.
 
Electric Bike Eco-Tour Oct. 25 & 26 
Try bicycle touring with a twist of the throttle! Outdoor Chattanooga will partner with Electric Bike Specialists to host an electric bicycle eco-tour to Mountain Cove Farms on Sat. & Sun., Oct. 25 & 26. Take a very leisurely ride from downtown through the lovely countryside of North GA, dine at the Farm's restaurant, camp overnight, then enjoy a camp breakfast before bicycling back to town. Cost is $85 per person and includes breakfast and lunch, camping accommodations, van support, guides and Motiv Sleek 6-speed electric bicycles.

World Champions Join 
Swim the Suck 10 Mile Oct. 11 
Olympian Alex Meyer and open water swimming champion Lexie Kelly will be among the world's best open water swimmers who join the 5th annual Swim the Suck 10 Mile open water swim, happening this Sat., Oct. 11 on the TN River. One hundred swimmers from around the globe will swim 10 miles of the river, from Suck Creek into the heart of the TN River Gorge.
 
Urban Campout Oct. 18
Adults and kids can indulge in a very special urban outdoor experience on Sat., Oct. 18 with the Urban Campout in Renaissance Park. The whole family can enjoy a catered dinner, bonfire, an outdoor movie and live music under the tree canopy of the park. For the truly adventurous, Tentsile will set up their elevated tents, completely equipped, for the family to camp overnight in the park. View ticket information and make a reservation.

Joe Johnson Run for Mental Health-JMHC Pumpkin Run Oct. 11
The Chattanooga Track Club will host the 10K JMHC Pumpkin Run race on Sat., Oct. 11, 9 a.m., on Moccasin Bend. Day of registration begins at 7:30 a.m. The event also features a 5K walk and a free family fun walk.
Farm to Table Bike Ride Oct. 11
Crabtree Farms will host a Farm to Table Bike Ride on Sat., Oct. 11, 3:30 p.m., starting from Crabtree Farms. Enjoy a group ride through downtown Chattanooga from the farm to table at local host restaurants.  Participants must supply their own bicycles and helmets for the event. Food and drinks are included in the ticket price of $30 for Crabtree Farms members and $35 for non-members. Participants must be 21 or older. Pre registration is required.
5K Run for Love Oct. 11
Love Without Reason and the Standifer Gap Baptist Church will host the 5K Run4Love 9 a.m. Oct. 11 at the TN Riverpark, 4301 Amnicola Hwy. All proceeds will benefit patients with craniofacial deformities.

Race for the Cure Oct. 12
The Susan G. Komen Foundation will host the Chattanooga 2014 Race for the Cure 5KOct. 12, 2 p.m. at Finley Stadium, 1826 Carter St. Registration and volunteer information may be found on the event website.

Yoga Plus Run Oct. 12
Wild Trails will host Chattanooga's first Yoga Plus Run on Sun., Oct. 12, 2 p.m. at Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center, 400 Garden Rd., at the base of Lookout Mtn. The event is an easy 3-mile fun run with stops for yoga along the way and a longer yoga session at the end led by Sarah Brogdon. Cost is $10, which includes admission to Reflection Riding and a goodie bag.
Seven Bridges Marathon Oct. 19
The 7 Bridges Marathon will bring hoards of runners to the Scenic City on Sun., Oct. 19, 7 a.m., starting in Coolidge Park. The event course crosses 7 downtown bridges, including the Walnut St. Bridge, Olgiati and Veterans. Runners may also participate in a half marathon, 5K or Family Fun Run.

RvrRox Events Oct. 11 & 12
Chattanooga Head Race Oct. 11
Heads up on the TN River downtown, as the 22nd annual Chattanooga Head Race rowing regatta gets underway. Crews from college, high school, clubs and even middle schools will compete on a 5,000 meter downriver course.

5 Points 50 Oct. 11
The Five Points Recreation Area on Lookout Mtn. is one of the area's mountain biking gems, with fast, flowing double track and very technical singletrack. The 5 Points 50 endurance ride benefits the Lula Lake Land Trust.
Urban Adventure Race Oct. 12
Adult-kid teams can compete in this fun, downtown Urban Adventure Race which will incorporate paddling, trail running, rock climbing and bicycling in downtown parks.  
L2 SUP Race Oct. 12
Race your standup paddleboard on a six or three mile course downtown during the L2 SUP race, the grand finale to the 2014 Southern Stoke race series. Categories are open for adults and juniors.
