Ernestine Kelley died on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 91.

She was born Sara Ernestine Nichols on March 3, 1923, in Petersburg, Tn. She trained as a nurse at Baroness Erlanger Hospital School of Nursing and worked at Pine Breeze Sanitarium during World War II and years after before marrying her loving husband of 52 years.

She received the Lord as her Saviour at an early age and was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest Nichols and Jessie Williams Nichols and husband, Grady W. Kelley.

She is survived by five children, Pat (Garry) Gray of East Ridge; Judy Kelley, Douglas Kelley, Philip (Teri) Kelley and Andrew Kelley all of Chattanooga; three grandchildren, Rebecca (Matt) Pobieglo, Warren Palmer and April Kelley; great grandchildren, Alana Pobieglo, Dylan Pobieglo and Mickey Pobieglo;  sister, Ethelene Schelling of Ossining, New York; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Robert D. Hughes officiating.

The family is thankful for the care she received by Andrew and Douglas Kelley, the compassion shown by her doctors, especially Doctors Miranda, Gwin, and Goldmann and Christina, the staffs of NHC Healthcare, In Good Health, CHI Memorial Health Care System and Avalon Hospice, especially Hallidee, Matt and Debbie. We would also like to thank our mother’s other physicians, Doctors Harnsberger, Bryan, Suekert, Pomerance, and Breazeale for their care over the years. In addition, we would like to thank the members of the Chattanooga Fire and Police Departments and Hamilton County EMS who responded on Wednesday night.
