Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee, an organization supporting 50 Habitat affiliates serving 62 counties throughout Tennessee, received a $500,000 grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency’s Housing Trust Fund toward the construction of 30 homes statewide.
Locally, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area was given an allocation of $15,500 from this grant to build a home here. This funding will be used towards construction of the 250th Habitat home in the Chattanooga area.
Construction of the home, located in North Chattanooga on Snow Street, is underway and the home is expected to be completed early next year – weather permitting.
“We are tremendously appreciative for the ongoing support and commitment from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency (THDA),” said David Butler, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga. “This funding is helping us to build a new energy efficient three-bedroom home for Ms. Brenda Goodloe, a mother of two, grandmother to four, and great-grandmother of two. Ms. Goodloe has dreamed of becoming a homeowner and with the support from THDA, Habitat for Humanity of Tennessee, and local partners, Habitat has made her dreams come true.”
Over the next nine months and upon the successful completion of this statewide grant, an estimated 109 children and adults will be living in a new, quality built energy efficient home they own, while making monthly home loan payments to Habitat that are then used to build even more homes.
