Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute Participants Graduate

Ceremony And Reception Set For Nov. 4

  • Tuesday, October 28, 2014

The 10th annual Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute class will celebrate the completion of this year’s program at a reception on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m. at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre.

Launched in 2005, the Institute is offered annually by ArtsBuild in memory of long-time board member and arts advocate A. William Holmberg, Jr. The four-month program develops leadership skills necessary to prepare the participants for prominent volunteer roles within local arts and cultural organizations. The Holmberg Institute educates participants about the mission and goals of ArtsBuild and Chattanooga arts organizations; explores current issues facing the arts community. The Institute provides many opportunities for networking as the participants receive a unique behind-the-scenes view of the arts.

This year’s Holmberg Institute kicked-off on Sept. 8 with an opening reception at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre and consisted of seven classes, each focusing on a different aspect of the arts in Chattanooga including education, advocacy, diversity, and downtown development. The class also spent a day in Nashville touring the Frist Center for the Visual Arts and meeting with officials at the Tennessee Arts Commission and Tennesseans for the Arts.

“The Holmberg Arts Leadership Institute has enhanced our community by engaging talented and dynamic citizens to understand the role the arts play to make Chattanooga a great place to live and work,” commented Rodney Van Valkenburg, director of Grants and Initiatives at ArtsBuild. “This class has demonstrated excellent leadership skills that will greatly benefit not only our arts community, but all of Hamilton County.”
