Wendy Waterhouse Erwin, 78 of Hixson, Tennessee, died on October 10, 2014.

She was born in Manchester, England on May 27, 1936 to Arnold and Elsie Creighton Waterhouse. She attended St. Elphins, a boarding school for girls associated with the Church of England in Darley Dale. She then attained a secretarial degree and later was employed by the Grand Hotel in Manchester, England. In Manchester she met her husband Joseph Otis Erwin, Jr. of Athens, Tn.  Joe and Wendy married July 10, 1957, and moved to Hixson the following December to make their home. Wendy loved America from the start.

Wendy was known for her beautiful English accent on the morning radio show with Luther Masingill, advertising her Stop Smoking Center where she enjoyed helping people for 15 years. She also owned and operated VIP Temporary Services which later led to Norrell Temporary in Hixson. Wendy loved spending time with her family and friends especially boating and skiing on Lake Chickamauga.

Wendy was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Joseph Otis Erwin Jr., her sister, Virginia Macaulay and brother, Harry Waterhouse.

She is survived by her sister, June Brabin of Leeds, England; her three children, Arnold (Karen) Erwin of Hixson,Tn.;  Jhan (Steve) Shaaber of Jacksonville, Fl. and Joanna McRae of Knoxville, Tn. She is also survived by ten grandchildren Leigha, Garret and Colton Erwin; Riley, Bryson and Jenner Shaaber; Connor, Isla, Iain and Sean McRae; and her great-grandson, Paxton Erwin-Cox.

She was a wonderful, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Chattanooga Funeral Home – North Chapel, 5401 Highway 153 Hixson, with The Reverend Donald A. Fishburne, D.Min., Rector, Saint Paul’s Church, Chattanooga officiating.

Arrangements are by the Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist, North Chapel, Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
