  • Saturday, October 25, 2014

The Chattanooga Mocs posted three more wins in four matches on day two of the Georgia Southern Championships today.  UTC went 1-1 in doubles and won both of its singles matches in Statesboro, Ga.

Junior Gino Delavalle teamed with freshman Michael Birnbam to split a pair in Flight B Doubles.  They opened with a very tough (8-7 (7)) loss to Florida Atlantic’s Alexander Gitin and Stefan Burnett.  They came back to defeat Yulin Liu and Sean Hadju from the Savannah College of Art & Design by the same score (8-7 (7)).

Delavalle continued the trend of tiebreakers in singles play.  He defeated FAU’s Trey Nickerson (7-6 (6), 6-0).  Freshman Michael Birnbaum wrapped up the day with a (6-2, 6-1) win over SCAD’s Theo Gough.

“It was another solid day for the Mocs,” said head coach Carlos Garcia.  Delavalle and Birnbaum have one more doubles match and a singles bout on Sunday.  Be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for complete information.
