Tennessee Senator Bob Corker participated in a groundbreaking ceremony Friday evening for a new open air pavilion, part of the new luxury housing development Jasper Highlands.
Located in Marion County near South Pittsburg and Jasper, the project was started by developer and owner John Thornton.
Senator Corker called the mountaintop view "absolutely beautiful" and said it was "almost like you're looking at a painting."
Along with the view, future homeowners will also be able to enjoy walking trails, streams and waterfalls, all while being in a safe, gated location.
According to TNLand.com, in addition to homesites, Jasper Highlands also offers larger properties that could be used for small farms or "equestrian estates."
Over 100 lots in the development have already been sold.
A release from Jasper Highlands said, "The 8,893-acre community rests atop Jasper Mountain on Pat’s Summit, overlooking the Cumberland Plateau, Tennessee River, and Nickajack Lake. The gated community features 21.3 miles of bluff frontage and more than 100 miles of nature trails. Land for sale includes a choice of small acreage homesites and larger properties with open fields and pastures to accommodate equestrian estates. Highlands’ residents will have access to a community garden, miles of nature trails, open-air pavilion, tennis courts, soccer field, swimming pool and basketball court. With the potential of nearly 2,500 homesites available, the development will have a substantial impact on the economy in Marion Co. for years to come, and bring new residents to the area within minutes of restaurants, grocery stores, hardware stores, and retail outlets."
“I’m excited about the economic development,” said Tennessee State Senator Janice Bowling. “This will create an economic cascading of the people up here who will be able to then buy their homes, buy their furnishings, go to the doctors, buy their groceries. And these people up here are going to be bringing skill sets to this community that will be so wonderful, and everyone will benefit in the process.”
“I am so proud of John Thornton and his team for working hard, against great odds and in tough
economic times, to make Jasper Highlands a reality,” said Bob Corker. “This is really a beautiful
setting.”
