About 3,000 Hamilton County eighth-graders from Hamilton County Schools will attend Career Crunch Nov. 13 and 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tennessee National Guard Armory.
Career Crunch gives companies and local professionals an opportunity to encourage career exploration and introduce students to various career opportunities and their educational requirements.
“The Chamber is proud to present Career Crunch as one of its career awareness programs for public school students,” said Bill Kilbride, President and CEO of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce. “Career Crunch not only encourages students to think about their career paths, but also gives the business community an outlet to educate young people on higher education, job responsibilities, salaries, benefits and more.”
In 2013, representatives from about 60 area companies and nonprofits participated in Career Crunch. Industries represented at this year’s event include: arts/communications, healthcare, human services, manufacturing/construction/transportation/logistics, finance, law/public safety, business/marketing, hospitality/tourism, medical, STEM and more.
“We must find ways to inspire young people to pursue their passions,” said Steve Angle, Chancellor at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a Career Crunch sponsor. “Today’s students are our future. We want them to dream big and then we must equip them with the tools they need to achieve success.”
