William Welch died peacefully after an extended illness at Kindred Respiratory Rehabilitation Hospital on October 23, 2014 and is now with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was 83 years old and was surrounded by family at his passing.

Bill was a native of the Chattanooga area and lived in the city most of his life. He served proudly in the Navy during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion. Bill had the CB handle "Grapevine" and retired from Roadway Express, participating actively in retiree gatherings. Bill was a member of Morris Hill Baptist church and loved his Sunday School group.

He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Charlotte, of 46 years and children Arleen Lee, Jimmy Welch, Jackie Lyon, Cindy Strube, and Gidget Welch. Bill's daughter Juanita Sullivan preceded him last year. He also leaves his brothers Leonard and Alton Welch. Bill's sisters, Marie Strickland and Francis West as well as his brothers, Eugene, Leon, and Bobby Welch preceded him. He leaves 18 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and a growing number of great-grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren to his legacy.

Mayfield Dairy may need to cut ice cream production unless they deliver to heaven. His love, caring, and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, at Morris Hill Baptist Church on Morris Hill Road in Chattanooga. The burial will be on Tuesday at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at a time to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, please send any gifts to the American Lung Association or Morris Hill Baptist Church.

Heaven is one richer with the addition of Bill.
