The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum 2014 Hiwassee River Rail excursions are available for purchase. Two excursions are running now through November out of Etowah, Tn. in partnership with the Tennessee Overhill Heritage Association, the Hiwassee Loop & Copperhill Special.
All trips from Etowah begin at the restored L&N Depot and passengers board a short passenger shuttle before arriving at the train. The Hiwassee Loop is a 3 1/2 hr excursion along the scenic lower Hiwassee River Gorge where the track loops over itself as the train corkscrews up Bald Mountain near Farner, Tn.
The Copperhill Special goes over the Hiwassee Loop into Copperhill, Tn. and is an all day excursion.
"The fall colors are peaking soon and can be viewed from our domed observation cars," said Steve Freer, TVRM spokesperson. "Canadian Pacific Algonquin Park has been added to our excursions and provides an elevated, panoramic view of our beautiful natural scenery. We are thrilled to offer this premium seating again this season," he added.
Dome seating is limited and is $75 per person on the Hiwassee Loop and $110 on the Copperhill Special,pricing for seats in Autumn are slightly higher. The Hiwassee Loop schedule runs through November 22 and the Copperhill Special Nov. 23.
