The Northshore Gallery of Contemporary Art has announced its upcoming exhibit, Invocation, opening Friday, Nov. 7.  The group exhibition will feature works by world-renowned artist Michael David and local artists Laura Willett and Eric Keller.

In 1981, Michael David was the youngest person to be awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a grant intended for men and women who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.  His works are included in permanent collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Art, and the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.  He is the founder of the Fine Arts Atelier in Atlanta and currently manages the Bushwick gallery Life on Mars.

Laura Willett and Eric Keller are married artists and art educators.  Ms. Willet has taught at the Creative Discovery Museum, the Hunter Museum, Scenic Land School, and is currently in her 15th year at Baylor School.  Mr. Keller has taught for 12 years at Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences and was previously a museum preparator at the Hunter Museum of American Art.  They were co-founders of Southeast Arts in the early 2000’s, an artist studio, gallery and co-op, and have been included in many regional group shows and solo shows that include The Hunter Museum of Art, Bill Lowe Gallery, Southeast Arts, Tanner Hill Gallery, River Gallery, UTC, Chattanooga State and Cleveland State.

“Invocation is a combination of work which explores both the ephemeral nature of life, and the struggle to transcend the confines of our particular culture,” said David Jones of the Northshore Gallery of Contemporary Art.  “We are extremely pleased to feature works by three highly talented and well respected artists, and hope our community will come by to enjoy the exhibition.”

Invocation will be on display Nov. 7-18.  Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. , Tuesday–Saturday.  A special reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 7, from 5-9 pm.  For more information, please visit thenorthshoregallery.com or call 400-9797.
