Joe Montijo
Joe M. Montijo, 82, of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, died on Tuesday Oct. 21, 2014 at 9:20 a.m.
Joe was born in Oxnard, Ca. in 1932. He was known all his life as a rugged hardworking man who loved his family. In 1982 Joe gave his life to The Lord and became a Christian. Joe was a member of Abbas House Church in Hixson.
In June of 1953 Joe married his beloved devoted wife Reyneria R. Montijo and enjoyed 61 glorious years of marriage to Reyneria until The Lord called him home. Joe designed and built their first home in Oxnard where he and Reyneria lived together for 40 years, and raised four children before retiring and moving to Tennessee to spend their Golden Years.
Joe retired in California in 1986 from the Laborers International Union of North America after 26 years. He also worked part time after that as a Longshoreman for over 10 years in Port Hueneme, Ca. In 2005 Joe and his wife moved to Soddy Daisy.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Nicolasa Montijo, father, Jose Montijo, sister, Margaret Moreno, and brother, Nick Montijo.
Joe is survived by his wife, Reyneria R. Montijo; sisters, Rose Galbraith, and Rita Green; brothers,William Montijo, and Reginald Montijo; daughters, Lilian Marie Montijo Munoz (husband, Pete), Corinne Lorraine Covarrubias (husband, Daniel), and Yvonne Paula Calzada (husband, George); son, Joseph Brian Montijo (wife, Alicia); grandchildren, Francisco “Frankie” Montijo Munoz, Pedro “Peter” Montijo Munoz, Dolly Marie Montijo Contreras, Jessica L. Howery, Robert E. Meyer, Jenna N. Montijo, Anthony J. Montijo; great-grandchildren, Joshua W. Howery, Samuel “Sammy” Contreras, Rachel Contreras.
The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153 Hixson, Tn. 37343 on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 3-7 p.m. and again on Sunday, from 2-3 p.m.
A celebration of life service for Joe will be held at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Sammy Wilson officiating.
Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, 5351 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in Joe’s name to Abbas House, 5208 Hixson Pike, Hixson, TN 37343.
