  • Tuesday, October 21, 2014

The Barnard Astronomical Society is conductingStar Party at Cloudland Canyon State Park on Saturday, Nov. 1. The event is hosted by Friends of the Park and Cloudland Canyon Park Staff.

The first part of the program will be at the Canyon overlook, near the Interpretative Center, beginning at 4 p.m., where there will be at least 1 telescope for solar observations.

At the tennis courts, beginning at 7 p.m., the Barnard Astronomical Society will be setting up telescopes for Deep Sky Objects such as galaxies, star clusters, nebulae and more.

There will also be discussions on constellations and how to identify them.

The program is free, but the usual park parking fee of $5 per car applies. No special equipment is needed, except maybe a lawn chair. If you bring a flashlight, be sure it has red cellophane over the lens to protect night vision.

Anyone that has a telescope and has questions about how to use it properly, is encouraged to bring it for instruction.

Please note that this program is the same weekend as the Arts and Crafts Celebration which is being held in a different part of the park. There is a separate $5 per car fee for entry to the Arts and Crafts Celebration area.
