James “Jim” W. May, 75, of Soddy Daisy, died on Sunday, October 19, 2014.

Jim was born in Soddy to the late Joe B. and Ibby Frances May.  He was raised in Soddy and received his GED from Kirkman High School.  Jim retired from Ross - Meehan and Wheland Foundries.  He was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church for many years before moving his membership to Dallas Bay Baptist Church.  At Dallas Bay Jim was a former deacon and chairman of the deacons, served as a greeter and was a member of the Koinonia Sunday School class.  He was an avid fisherman and loved being on the water.

Jim was also preceded in death by his siblings, Billy R. May; Barbara May Hagan, Marguerite Brown, and Joann May.  

James is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Hamby May; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Lisa May; grandson, Spencer Johnson and wife Shari and great grandson, Noah; brothers-in-law, John Elsea and wife Yvonne, Glenn Davis, Harry “Boe” Hamby and wife Jackie, and Ples Hamby; sister-in-law, Betty May; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses, Lee Ann, Hope, Laurel and Pastor Jim with Caris Hospice for their love and care given to Jim during his illness.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 22, and again on Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of James’ life follows at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23, at the funeral home chapel with Dr. Ken Duggan and Dr. David McNabb officiating. Entombment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family has asked that memorial contributions be made in James name to Dallas Bay Baptist Church, 8305 Daisy Dallas Road, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
