St. Andrew’s-Sewanee earned its 5th win on its Senior Night on Friday, beating the Middle Tennessee Heat 54-30.
The Mountain Lions took an early lead and kept the scores coming.
Offensively, seniors Levi Higgins and Riley Rhoton led the SAS team to 524 total yards, with 338 of those coming from Higgins. Higgins ran for 5 touchdowns and returned a kickoff for a touchdown, while Rhoton racked up 146 yards, running for one touchdown and throwing for another. Freshman Stensby caught the only passing touchdown for the Mountain Lions, and freshman James Hudson scored on a two point conversion.
Coach McLain Still, a former Sewanee football player, said, “Offensively, we played well. Our linemen hit their blocks, and the (running) backs found the holes. It was a great win on the University of the South’s field. It was a great night and a great atmosphere for our kids. It was great to be on the field again with fans in the stands.”
Defensively, the Mountain Lions played tough, with highlights coming from freshman Steven Zhu and sophomore Max LaFrenier - both of whom came up with an interception.
SAS honored its five seniors at halftime - Levi Higgins, Riley Rhoton, David Jimenez, Christian Hanger and Thomas Kim.
The St. Andrew’s-Sewanee Mountain Lions (5-4) will wrap up the regular season at The Webb School (2-6) next Friday night at 7 p.m.
