The Chattanooga Mocs softball team celebrated its 2014 Southern Conference championship today while hosting its annual Blue & Gold Game and RBI Club Cookout at Frost Stadium.
The Scenic City welcomed back members of the 2014 roster and staff, including those on roster for the upcoming spring season. The intersquad game began at 11 a.m. and was followed up with the ring ceremony and cookouts immediately afterwards.
Long-time fans and supporters Joe and Barbara Waters, along with Senior Associate Athletics Director Laura Herron and Head CoachFrank Reed presented the championship rings to last season’s team. The rings are a generous gift from the Waters, who purchase each team’s highly-coveted jewelry.
As for the scrimmage that preceded, hundreds of fans at Frost Stadium saw the Blue Team defeat the Gold Team in a lopsided 9-1 victory. Freshman Cori Jennings (Brush Creek, Tenn.) and sophomore Katie Henderson (Hixson, Tenn.) combined to allow just one earned run, and senior slugger Shelby Carter (Maple Valley, Wash.) highlighted the scoring with a mammoth two-run homerun in the second inning.
After the game and ceremony, those in attendance were invited to the concourse behind the first base dugout for a free cookout, hosted by the RBI Club.
The Blue & Gold Game caps off the 2014 fall season for the Mocs, sending the team indoors until February when UTC goes back to action for the 2015 campaign. Continue to follow GoMocs.com as Chattanooga looks to announce its 2015 schedule within the following weeks.
