Normanda Donaldson “Mandy” Porter
Normanda Donaldson “Mandy” Porter, of Chattanooga, died on Sunday, October 12, 2014, peacefully at her home, at age 61, to be with our Lord God.
She attended Central high school in 1968 as one of the first African-American students to attend and two years at Kirkman high school. She attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and served our country in the US Army, Communications Specialist nine years, retiree of 25 years employment at Top-flight Paper Company and union rep.
“Mandy” was a kind and wonderful sister, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Barbara J. Donaldson; brother, Russell Alford; grandson, Brandon Douglass.
She is survived by a son, Russell Porter; daughter, Barbara (Jason) Zellous; grandchildren, Diamond Douglass: Kennedy and Jamari Zellous; sisters, Bonnie (George) Greene, Cynthia “Cindy” Recarter Thomas; cousin, Maurice (Mary) Bradford; former husband, Russell Porter; nieces, Adriane (Cory) Thomas, Denise (Tannis) Hall; nephews, Bobby Greene, Wiley (Rachel) Smith and James Smith.
A graveside service will be conducted by The Reverend Alford Hawkins on Monday, Oct. 20, at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
