Samuel “Sam” Newby, 75, of Georgetown, TN, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 at the family residence.
He was the son of the late Joe and Ruby Newby; and was also preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Newby.
Sam was a US Army veteran serving with the combat engineers. He was retired from Jackson Manufacturing. He was an avid Ham radio operator and belonged to the National Ham Radio Association. He was also an avid music lover and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his daughter, Janie Hogan and her husband Johnny of Georgetown; his companion of 21 years, Tana Hlabse; grandsons, Adam and Josh Hogan; sisters, Betty Stokes of Cleveland and Stella Stallings from Manila AK; two very close cousins, Joyce May and Maggie Murray; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be held at 11am a.m. Thursday, October 16 at the North Ocoee St. Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Rev. David Evans officiating. The interment will follow in the Johnson Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 15 from 5-8 p.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
