Private Dispute Resolution Services To Host Free Seminar And Reception Thursday

  • Tuesday, October 14, 2014

In celebration of the American Bar Association’s Mediation Week, Private Dispute Resolution Services will host a free seminar and reception.

PDRS, founded in 1997 is partnering with Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce to host this month’s Business After-Hours event on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. The monthly event offers local professionals the opportunity to network and socialize at a different business each month. In addition, PDRS is offering a free seminar earlier in the day.

Mediation: Why it Works will be held Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon.  Reservations are required and space is limited.  Call 266-4050 to make a reservation.  Both events are held at 1000 Market St.

“Mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution have become a part of the fabric of our society,” said Dr. Carol Berz, Private Dispute Resolution Services CEO and a Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Listed mediator and trainer.

“Collaborative problem-solving and conflict resolution are now the preferred choice for many corporations and individuals. We are proud to join the American Bar Association and other conflict resolution organizations in celebration of the strides that have been made to establish mediation as one of several appropriate dispute resolution processes, said Dr. Berz.”

Mediation, according to Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31, is an informal process in which a neutral person conducts discussions among the disputing parties designed to enable them to reach a mutually acceptable agreement among themselves on all or any part of the issues in dispute.

“As mediators, we understand both the challenges and rewards of helping parties in conflict reach a satisfactory agreement,” said Dr. Berz. “Our role is to provide the environment for parties to reach a settlement that is cost effective, time-efficient, meets legal muster and has staying power.”
