Rivermont Presbyterian To Open Coffeehouse

Rivermont Presbyterian Church, 3310 Hixson Pike, will begin again to sponsor a coffeehouse with pizza and participant entertainment on Saturday, April 27. Pizza will be at 5:30 p.m. and the program will continue until 8:30 p.m.

A high school seniors' banquet will be on Sunday, April 28, in the Commons at 5:30 p.m.

City Seeking Grant To Improve Signals At 32 Intersections

The city is seeking a $2 million federal grant to go along with $500,000 in city funds for a project to improve signals at 32 intersections. There would also be bike and pedestrian improvements. The routes include Brainerd Road, Lee Highway, Shallowford Road, Gunbarrel Road and Hamilton Place Boulevard. The application is for a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Grant. (click for more)

Bibbs Gets 33-Month Federal Sentence On Gun Charge

A youth who police said was involved in a gang shooting while out on bond on a first-degree murder charge has been sentenced to serve 33 months in federal prison. Demetrius Demond Bibbs, identified as a member of the Black P Stone Bloods, appeared before Judge Curtis Collier. Bibbs earlier pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a weapon.
