Signal Mountain Genealogical Society Meets Feb. 5

The Signal Mountain Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Walden Town Hall. 

The speaker for the day will be Joan Hanks. Her presentation, "2012 to 2015 -The Bicentennial of the War of 1812," will inform those in attendance of the remembrances and celebrations of that historic event.  

The hostess for the day will be Ellen Matthews.  Refreshments will be served at 1 p.m., and the business session will begin at 1:30 p.m. As always, guests are welcome.


DAR Awards $10,000 Education Grant To The Chattanooga History Center

Man Convicted In 1997 "Cold Case" Murder Gets 22-Year Prison Sentence

A man found guilty of a 1997 Chattanooga murder long after the crime was committed was sentenced on Monday to serve 22 years in prison.   A Criminal Court jury last October found Adolphus Hollingsworth guilty of second-degree murder.   Judge Rebecca Stern set the sentence in the case involving the slaying of Victoria Carr Hollingsworth.   The state ... Brian E. Hoskins, 29, Dies In East Brainerd Motorcycle Crash Sunday Night

Brian E. Hoskins, 29,  died in a motorcycle crash in East Brainerd on Sunday night. At approximately 10:07 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Department responded to 8776 Igou Gap Road. Injustice Is Terrible, But Shouldn't Lead To Rioting - And Response (2)

Injustice is terrible.  Period.  I am totally wowed, amazed, and grateful that the six officers have been charged in Baltimore.  Justice will be done like with the officer that shot the man in the back.   That being said,  I don't understand why, when atrocities like this happen, protests and marches can evolve into terrible rioting.  Fortunately ...
