Faith Protector Is Message At First Christian Church Sunday

Saturday, August 04, 2012

“Faith Protector” is the title of Sunday’s message presented by Pastor Paul Rebelo at 10:45 a.m. at First Christian Church.

Assistive listening devices are available to worshipers with hearing loss during the service. Real-time captioning also is offered on many Sundays. Visitors are always welcome.

First Christian Church, at 650 McCallie Ave., is a church of service, not lip service.  With school starting soon, several programs need support: CRITI children need school supplies that can be dropped off in the lobby this Sunday and The House campus ministry at UTC is in need of new leaders for college-age Bible studies.

At Brown Academy, Angel Program sponsors are needed. First Christian became a sponsor of Brown Academy several years ago. Church members adopt a homeless or economically disadvantaged student and provide them with necessities and special treats throughout the year.

And the final push is to help “Stuff the Bus,” by bringing school supplies to the First Tennessee Pavilion on Aug. 19. Teachers typically spend $1,200 out-of-pocket for disadvantaged students each year. Help is needed to make sure students have what they need for a successful school year.

Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?

I’ve gotten hundreds of jokes since Tuesday when I wrote about feeling a little puny lately and expressing my belief that laughter is the best medicine. After breaking some bones in my arm as I slept last week and having no idea there were already some other fractures, it looked pretty certain I had a case of “The Big C.” I’ve always felt that stands for “courage” but the medical ...
