Riverfront Nights Summer Music Series Begins Saturday

Thursday, August 02, 2012

Friends of the Festival is geared up for another Riverfront Nights Summer Music Series starting this Saturday. Presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Riverfront Nights offers a series of free evening concerts for the Tennessee Valley community at Ross's Landing during the months of August and September, featuring blues, rock, country, bluegrass and more.

Kicking off the sixth annual concert series is the New Orleans funk & soul band, Papa Grows Funk. One of the world's most respected Hammond B-3 masters, played to 10,000 during his hometown's recent "Jazz & Heritage Festival". PGF has pulled the Bessie Smith Strut crowd to their feet in years past.  Their new album, "Needle in the Groove" is a stunner.

The opening act for Saturday night's entertainment is The Kymera Project. This hyper-energetic, horn based, genre-bending "funk stars" won last year's "Battle of the Bands," and are back with more energy than ever.

Outdoor Chattanooga is once again sponsoring "On the Green," a rotating array of sports, hobbies and pastimes. This Saturday's event will be "Disc Sports Night."

All shows are child and pet friendly. Doors open and beer sales begin at 6:30 p.m. at Chattanooga's 21st Century Waterfront.  Local opening bands start around 7 p.m. and headliners kick into high gear promptly at 8 p.m. playing until around 10.

Eco-friendly businesses & charities gather at the green|spaces tent: Habitat for Humanity.

Under the Pup Tent at the 'Dog Pound' will be: Pet Placement Center.
