UTC Considering Request To Stop Prayers At Football Games; Campus Group To Have "Call For Prayer" At Game

Saturday, August 18, 2012

UTC officials are considering a request that prayers be stopped at Moc home football games.

The request came in a letter from the Freedom From Religion Foundation of Wisconsin.

The same group made the same request to the County Commission, and that later led to a federal lawsuit when the county did not comply.

Meanwhile, a UTC campus group is urging prayer at the games "in light of the recent attacks against prayer at the Hamilton County Commission and UTC."

Campus Christians, a ministry for college students, is hosting a “Call for Prayer” at UTC’s first home game Sept. 13 at Finley Stadium at 6 p.m.

The group said, "We are organizing this event for the community to give people an opportunity to show support for the need of prayer, to show UTC and the county commission support during this difficult time, and to initiate the beginning of having volunteers available for prayer at all home games of every sport at UTC (T-shirts will be available for free for anyone willing to commit to praying with people before games).

"This is not a protest or demonstration; rather, an opportunity for the collective body of Christ to come together in love and unity in prayer."

Scandals At Home And Abroad

Since my hip operation and time in recovery, I have tried to set aside things that are insignificant to me and to average Americans. Don't get me wrong here. But the dirty deeds themselves carry little weight as to what they mean to you or me. ... (click for more)
