Council To Take Another Look At Internal Auditor Post

Friday, August 17, 2012

The City Council plans to take another look at the independent auditor post that was recently approved by voters.

Councilman Jack Benson said he has concerns about how the auditor's pay will be determined.

He also said the way the position is set up it will be difficult for an auditor to be fired. He said the auditor would have "too much security."

However, Councilman Manny Rico said the setup should be left alone. He said the council had long discussions on the new arrangement prior to submitting it for a referendum.

Stan Sewell, current internal city auditor, is to take the post and work under a board of five local private auditors.

Here is the ordinance to be considered Tuesday, Aug. 28:

An ordinance to amend the Charter of the City of Chattanooga as amended by
Ordinance No. 12566, as set forth herein, so as to change the method of
determining the Internal Auditor’s compensation and method for removal from
office.
