Cleveland For A No Kill To Hold Adoption Event

Friday, August 17, 2012

No dogs or cats have died at Cleveland Animal Control in the last month due to overcrowding. That could change on Monday, officials said.

Lindsey Smith said, "After nearly 70 pets were taken to animal control by their owners in the last week, we need lots of adoption over the weekend to help ensure overcrowding at animal control doesn't result in dogs and cats dying. To help ensure the trend of getting dogs and cats out alive continues, Cleveland for a No Kill City and Cleveland Animal Control will be holding an adoption event at Tractor Supply on Keith Street."

Puppies, kittens, dogs and cats will be available for adoption. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The adoption fee is $50 and includes spay/neuter, first vaccinations (DHPP for dogs/puppies and FVRCP for cats/kittens), rabies vaccination (if the animal is old enough), fecal test and de-worming at either Appalachian Animal Clinic or Dixie Day Spay. Adopters can choose other veterinary clinics in Bradley County, but may pay more for the services at other clinics.

Sponsorships of the $50 fee are available for all animals adopted on Saturday. Those seeking a sponsored adoption fee complete an application that must be approved by Cleveland for a No Kill City before a sponsorship is granted.

Animals that are adopted on Saturday will be transported back to animal control and adopters will receive their new dogs and cats from the veterinary clinic of their choice on Monday afternoon.

Laptops and Internet access will also be available so potential adopters can browse photos of animals available for adoption who are being held at Cleveland Animal Control but who were not transported to the event at Tractor Supply.

Those who can't make it to Tractor Supply or Animal Control on Saturday can visit the Facebook page www.facebook.com/clevelandforanokillcity and follow instructions there to adopt a pet. You don't have to have a Facebook account to access the page. For more information, call Cleveland for a No Kill City at (423) 464-6070 or email clevelandforanokillcity@gmail.com

Cleveland Animal Control is located at 360 Hill St. SE. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon. Check out animal control’s new website at www.cityofclevelandtn.com/PoliceDepartment/animalcontrol.html

Scandals At Home And Abroad

Since my hip operation and time in recovery, I have tried to set aside things that are insignificant to me and to average Americans. Don't get me wrong here. What these people are doing (Bengahzi) is despicable be they left or right wing, and they have been doing it (both sides) for a long time. But the dirty deeds themselves carry little weight as to what they mean to you or me. ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: 50 Facts About Our Bodies

Maybe 20 years ago I became entranced by a book called “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made.” It was co-authored by a surgeon, Paul Brand, and a Christian writer, Phillip Yancey, and gave one specific after another about the human body and how only God could have created such a miraculous machine. Today the book is a classic and I have marveled ever since over how unbelievable human ... (click for more)
