Why buy an election?
Everyone doesn't buy an election. It is unfortunate that so much has to be spent to run for office. Having just finished an election, I see how easy it would be to keep spending as the election cycle churns on and ramps up. No one likes to lose, so you raise the stakes.
It is truly sad, however ,that some people will never experience the generosity of friends who want to contribute because they believe you can do something effective and good. And it is too bad that there are people who are so cynical that they think that only selfish people seek public office. In this election cycle, I attended a number of sessions with many candidates of both parties and met wonderful people who are selfless in their desire to be of service to others.
Had that not been the case of Washington and Adams, along with others since then, we would not have the right to gripe and complain. I would urge those who feel this way to attend "meet the candidates" rallies or even run for office yourself. Or as someone told me to put my money where my mouth was, and I did and I am glad I did.
