Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a Living History Day at Chickamauga Battlefield on Saturday.
Living history volunteers will present an artillery demonstration adjacent to the Visitor Center. A park ranger will describe the drills and activities required to fire an artillery cannon or rifle, while explaining the teamwork necessary for the weapon to be successfully effective.
The artillery programs will be presented at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Living historians will represent and describe the life of an artilleryman. Visitors are encouraged to observe and meet with the different crew members of the unit to learn what life was like for these soldiers during the Civil War.
Also, author Mark Hughes will be on hand in the Visitor Center bookstore to sign his latest publication, “Civil War Handbook.”
