Wamp Hits Fleischmann On "Negative Direct Mail Piece"

Monday, July 30, 2012

The Weston Wamp campaign charged Monday that incumbent Congressman Chuck Fleischmann "has sent out a negative direct mail piece in the final days" of the campaign for the Republican nomination from Tennessee’s 3rd District.

The mail piece says Chuck Fleischmann is a “workhorse” while it describes Weston Wamp and Scottie Mayfield as “show horses.” The Wamp campaign says, "It comes complete with a carousel and three attacks each on Wamp and Mayfield."

“The simple truth is that Chuck, led by Chip Saltsman, ran the most negative campaign in the history of the 3rd District in 2010 when they used lies to tear down Robin Smith and her family,” said Weston Wamp.

“That part is clear in their own depositions that are part of an ongoing defamation of character lawsuit in Nashville. Chuck and Chip can’t tell the truth or get to an end of a campaign without doing this type of stuff.”

The mailer says Weston Wamp “never had a job.” The Wamp campaign says, "The fact is Wamp helped several successful entrepreneurs launch the Lamp Post Group in the fall of 2010, where he is the director of communications, and started his own small business in early 2011."

“What Chuck Fleischmann says about Weston is an outright lie and is an insult to all young entrepreneurs in our city,” said Ted Alling, a partner at the Lamp Post Group and CEO of Access America Transport. The Lamp Post Group features nine portfolio companies and employs more than 400 people, he said.

The mail piece accuses Scottie Mayfield of having history of tax problems, working with liberals and profiting from big government.
