Democratic Candidates Debate To Be Held On July 12

Democratic candidates in the 3rd Congressional District, State House District 28, State Senate District 10 and for County Mayor will all participate in a forum and debate sponsored by the Chattanooga Times Free Press, WRCB/Channel 3, the Chattanooga chapter of the NAACP and the Hamilton County Voter Empowerment Team, on July 12 at 6 p.m.

Participants include Dr. Mary Headrick and Bill Taylor (3rd Congressional race), Rep. Tommie Brown and Rep. JoAnne Favors (House District 28), Quenston Coleman, Andrae McGary and David Testerman (State Senate District 10), and Dr. Rick Wilson (County Mayoral race).

The event will be held at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, 2514 Williams Street, Chattanooga. The debate will be divided into four 30-minute sections, one for each race. Rev. Kenneth Love of Saint Paul A.M.E. will moderate. The media sponsors will be live blogging from the debate, and those who cannot be there are encouraged to log on to participate.

“This debate will show how qualified and prepared our candidates for office are,” said Hamilton County Democratic Party Chairman Paul Smith. “We encourage everyone to come out on July 12 to listen and see for yourself how well they understand the needs of the county, the state and the nation.”


Library Offers New Baby Bounce Program

The Chattanooga Public Library now offers Baby Bounce, a unique story time for newborns to 18 month-old-children and their caregivers. Weight Limit On Standifer Gap Road Bridge Over Friars Branch Decreased To 6 Tons

The weight limit on the bridge over Friars Branch just west of Woodland Park Baptist Church on Standifer Gap Road has been lowered to six tons for all vehicles. This change is now in effect.    (click for more)

Man Stabbed To Death After Argument

A Chattanooga man was stabbed to death after an argument on Friday night. At approximately 11 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a stabbing at 101 E 20 th St. where they found the victim, Alexis Lewis, 51, lying on the walkway with a fatal stab wound to his chest. Baker Says City Withdrawal On Riverbend Security Will Make Pin Costs Rise Next Year
