Second Amendment Theft - And Response (4)

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

Ok folks, something really ugly is about to happen. If Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signs the U.N. Small Arms Treaty, and Harry Reid refuses to allow the treaty ratification to be voted on, it will become de facto, law of the land.

Your right to keep and bear arms will disappear.

I'd like to first thank Mr. Foley for his concern for our rights as a citizen.  I do believe, though in this case he is mistaken.  It is my understanding of our Constitution, that the only ways to alter our
rights is though an amendment or possibly a ruling by the Supreme Court.

Additionally, treaties must be approved by a positive 2/3's vote in the Senate.

I have written my Senator and both my Congressmen in Georgia about this issue. Tom Graves (R-GA) has co-sponsored legislation to stop this act from becoming law.

“We The People” better wake up!  Otherwise the idiots in Washington will give away all the rights our forefathers fought so hard for.

Mr. Brown is correct in saying that a two-thirds super-majority in the Senate must be reached in order to ratify a treaty. However, in the unlikely event that this occurs (58 senators are on record as being opposed to the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT)), it still would not have any effect on the rights of U.S citizens. In Reid v Covert, 354 U.S. 1 (1957), the U.S. Supreme Court established that the Constitution supersedes all treaties ratified by the Senate. Essentially, it would take a constitutional amendment or a drastic reinterpretation of the 2nd Amendment by the Supreme Court to alter the basic rights of gun ownership.

I have contacted Senator Alexander and Senator Corker concerning this treaty. Corker responded  back, stating that there is no treaty that is going to be signed by Clinton on July 27, just an agreement to have negotiations. I replied that the negotiations was over with and that Clinton will sign the treaty regardless.

All treaties should be ratified by the senate and not by Obama or Clinton alone. The only way that this can be canceled is if the POTus renounces or that the Senate holds a vote to cancel it. Chances are it will nto happen until Obama and Reid or out of office.

It's the right of everyone who believes in the 2nd Amendment as well as the Constitution to notify thier reps in Congress to get the ball rolling and end this tyranny before it's too late.
