Lee University’s Mike Hayes and William Lamb presented at the annual conference for the Association for Christians in Student Development, held at Taylor University in Indiana.   ACSD’s mission is to provide opportunities for the integration of the Christian faith in the student development profession.

In their workshop entitled, “You Might Die Trying: Service-Learning and the Cultivation of Wisdom,” Mr. Lamb and Mr. Hayes asserted the enhancement of student learning by engaging students in the high-impact, educational practice of service-learning.

The workshop further demonstrated how the spirit of service imbues Lee’s university culture, through a review of the university’s service projects and the dissemination of practical ideas in terms of projects, reflection, and assessment.

The presentation was identified as a model workshop by the conference planning committee, and was well-received by attendees. One participant said of the presentation, “It helped me to know how I can get students connected to service-learning and how I can help to model a service lifestyle to my students.” Another attendee described the workshop as “encouraging and thought-provoking. It challenged me to evaluate what we are doing to be proactive and intentional and progressive in serving.”

Mr. Hayes currently serves as Lee University’s vice president for Student Development. A graduate of Lee, he initially served for two years as a counselor in the Office of Counseling and Testing before promotion to director of Student Development in 1997.

Mr. Lamb is the director of Lee’s Leonard Center, a diverse and global "service-learning" placement center for students. He is co-founder and president of Heart 2 Heart Ministries in Cleveland.
