Purple Heart Recipient Was Former Traffic Judge In Fort Oglethorpe

James Newton Holland, 94, of Fort Oglethorpe, died on June 27, 2012 at his residence.

He was a lifelong resident of the Rossville/Fort Oglethorpe area and a member of Parkway Baptist Temple.  He was a U. S. Army veteran, a recipient of the Purple Heart, a former member of the Kiwanis Club and a former traffic judge in Fort Oglethorpe, former member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe, Past President of the Post Recreation Association, previous owner of the Holland Grocery Store in Rossville.  He was a devoted Christian having served his Lord and the church in the offices of deacon and Sunday School teacher.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Boots Holland, parents, James I. and Gladys Kitchens Holland, and brothers, Bill and Ernest Holland.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Margaret M. Holland, son, Eddie (Brenda) Holland, stepsons, Ron (Dianne) Adcox and Don (Cendy) Adcox, sister, Elizabeth Ellis, brother, Charles Holland, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 30, at 10 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Dr. David Sampson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Friday, June 29, from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
