Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tn.) on Friday released the following statement on his vote Thursday to approve an amendment offered by Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) that would end taxpayer funding of national party conventions:
“At a time when Washington is borrowing 40 cents of every dollar it spends, Washington has no business spending taxpayer dollars on our political party conventions. Solving our budget problems will require many difficult decisions by Congress – but this should be an easy one.”
Senator Coburn’s amendment to the farm bill was approved by a vote of 95-4. The farm bill itself was passed by the Senate on Thursday.
