The Ooltewah Tidal Waves entered Thursday night's swim meet with visiting Cleveland as the only undefeated team in the Chattanooga Area Swim League.

They remain perfect after five meets.

Actually, they picked up two wins on Thursday.  The first one was the meet with Mosby Park that had been suspended by lightning on June 11 with Ooltewah leading, 179-152.  That lead transferred to a win after the Waterdogs chose to not make the short trip down 1-75 to complete the final few events.

The second win came in the form of a 463-298 decision over the Aqua Tigers, proving that Ooltewah's 412-332 win in the season's first meet on June 4 was not a fluke.

The Tidal Waves were at full strength on Thursday while the Aqua Tigers were missing some key members who were away on vacation.

Ooltewah had a 22-point lead (66-44) after the freestyle races and it never got any closer.  The Tidal Waves made a statement with a 76-44 advantage in the medley relays and the lead just kept stretching for the home team.

The Aqua Tigers entered their latest meet with a 3-1 record in the Red division with a chance to move into a tie for first with the Tidal Waves.

It never came close to being reality.

Despite the setback, Cleveland coach Eric Frazier was upbeat and happy with what he saw at the Ooltewah Swim Center.

"It was nice and hot," he said in an understatement after the final relay had been completed.

"We had some kids not here tonight, but the good news is that we got to give other kids some exposure in other events and we found some good ones we didn't know about.  We didn't win, but the experience in the water makes them better.

"I'm really not concerned with place as much as I am each individual getting his or her best time.  If we all get PRs across the board, the wins will come.  We're really excited about the future as we have a lot of potential.

"The kids are doing all I ask and more.  This is my second year as a head coach and I'm still learning.  I still have a lot of room for improvement, but the kids are having fun and that's what it's all about," Frazier added.

Ooltewah coach Ed Dailey was in total agreement with Frazier about the heat.  Luckily as the meet progressed, the oppressive heat and humidity subsided and it was quite pleasant on the pool deck when the meet was over.

"It was great," Dailey began.

"We swam well against a tough team and we're doing pretty good these days.  We continue to practice hard on a daily basis and our goal is to get a personal best every time we swim a lap.  When we do, good things normally happen.

"We had a few minor issues with some of our younger kids, but nothing that can't be fixed.  We continue to get better, but we still have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks," Dailey added.

Perhaps the biggest difference in the meet was the number of high-point scorers for each team.  The Tidal Waves were impressive with 22 individuals who had at least 10 points, including Leah Boyd, Sarah Malloch, Joby Nash, Jake Marcum, Emma Scruggs and Rachel Dover with the maximum 19;

Cleveland, on the other hand, only had 11 swimmers with 10 or more, including Jacob McDaniel as the lone Aqua Tiger with 19 points.

Spencer Payne, Megan Mitchell and Nelson Chung all finished with 14 points.

OTHER WINNERS included Dalton over Signal Mountain by a 431.5-324.5 score in the Blue divison while Fairyland improved to 3-2 in the Blue with a 420-341 victory over Ringgold.  

Red Bank was another Red division winner with a 394-296 decision over Fort Oglethorpe. Country Club improved to 4-1 to stay alone in first place in the White division with a 411-354 victory over Ridgeside. Calhoun beat Big Ridge by a 437-247 final in another White division meet.
