Motions have been set for Aug. 30 at 1:30 p.m. in the case in which Jesse Mathews is charged with the murder of Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin.
Criminal Court Judge Barry Steelman said that day he will hear some or all of the motions that are disputed between the prosecution and the defense.
A trial date of Jan. 22, 2013, was set earlier.
Prosecutor Neal Pinkston said all but about six motions have been agreed.
He said both sides are working on a questionnaire that will be presented to potential jurors.
Attorney Lee Davis, who is representing the 26-year-old Mathews along with Bryan Hoss, said the defense has filed 53 motions.
Police say Sgt. Chapin was shot in the face by Mathews after an armed robbery at a nearby pawn shop in Brainerd on April 2, 2011.
The state is seeking the death penalty.
