Lee University’s School of Music will be hosting its annual summer camp June 25-30. The camp is open to students entering grades 9-12 and rising college freshman. The camp will offer a variety of classes and performance opportunities led by Lee music faculty and visiting professionals.
This year’s program will feature four participation tracks: jazz, music lovers, worship leader, and college prep. The jazz track will feature an in-depth study of jazz, specialized master-classes, studies in jazz theory and improvisation, and ensemble experience in small combos. In each of these tracks, campers participate in an ensemble, as well as study music theory, history and private or specialized study in a desired performance area.
Six concerts are held during the camp, and the public is invited to attend. Times and locations are as follows: Monday, 6 p.m., Squires Hall; Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Church St Annex; Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., Rose Lecture Hall; Thursday, 7:30 p.m., Squires Hall; Friday, 7:30 p.m., Rose Lecture Hall; and Saturday, 10 a.m., Church St Annex. The final concert will feature the camp participants in choir, band, and chamber strings.
Total cost to attend Summer Music Camp is $495. There is a non-refundable $25 registration fee, but it is applied to the camp fee. A $50 dorm/key deposit is also required. A $25 late fee applies after June 8.
The fees include tuition, housing in Lee University residence halls, three meals each day, private lessons in one area of study and tickets to all concerts and master classes each week.
There are a limited number of $250 and $100 scholarships available to those who have a proven financial need. A letter explaining the need should be submitted with the application. The $25 application fee is not waived and should be included with the application and scholarship request letter.
