County Commission Names David Norton To Fill Judge Moon Post

The County Commission on Thursday morning voted 7-1 to name assistant county attorney David Norton as General Sessions Court judge to fill the seat caused by the death of Judge Bob Moon.

Commissioner Jim Fields voted for Rob Philyaw.

General Sessions Court Judge Clarence Shattuck said attorney Norton will be sworn in Tuesday.

Attorney Norton has been judge for the city of Soddy Daisy for 28 years. It will be up to the Soddy Daisy Commission to choose his replacement.

Attorney Norton will serve until the Aug. 2 election.

There were 11 candidates seeking the appointment, including Bryan Hoss who pledged to serve as a caretaker only.

Commissioner Warren Mackey was absent.
