Eagle Scout Project Benefits Chattanooga Arboretum And Nature Center At Reflection Riding

Alex Walker of Boy Scout Troop 223 in Hixson, celebrated his Eagle Scout Rank after completing renovations to the Siren Pool Gazebo at Chattanooga Arboretum and Nature Center at Reflection Riding.

Mr. Walker and his team of volunteers replaced the roof and repaired the structure of the 30-year-old wooden gazebo at the historic, natural site which is located at the foot of Lookout Mountain.

Each Eagle Scout candidate is required to organize and implement a project that involves managing volunteers, planning a course of action and seeing a worthwhile project through to completion.  He decided the CA&NC was the perfect place to do such a thing.

“I became very fond of this place because I like to watch the wolves here,” Mr. Walker said. “I met with the management, and they made me aware of the work that needed to be done for the old gazebo. After taking a look at it, I decided that replacing the roof would be something that would benefit future visitors for years to come.”

Mr. Walker began his project in July, working through rain and shine until the gazebo looked as good as new. He went above and beyond by adding an extra feature to the roof.

“I stepped back and was very pleased with the new roof, but something seemed to be missing,” Mr. Walker said. “I decided that upgrading the roof with copper-colored ridge caps would be just the thing.”

Walker completed the gazebo and achieved Eagle Scout rank.
