Over $12 million in claims have been filed against a 40-year Soddy Daisy tax advisor, who suddenly stopped making payments several months ago to a host of investors who had been promised excessivly high returns.
Attorney Tom Ray said Jack E. Brown has $1.4 million to go against the pile of claims.
He is surrendering two homes, a gymnasium and 16 acres on the family compound at Sale Creek along with the tax service office in Soddy Daisy and various other tracts.
Brown is also giving up two RVs, tractors, a bush hog, a 2011 Explorer van that is set up for handicapped use, a 2008 Chevy Avalanche truck, a 2008 Escalade, a 1940 Ford Coupe, a 1936 Lincoln and a dirt bike.
The property he is surrending also includes five acres at Sale Creek, lots at Chestnut View Drive and Hixson Pike, 14980 Dayton Pike, 10838 Dayton Pike (the tax service property), 11234 Dayton Pike and 11655 Hixson Pike.
Brown said he has an interest in Legacy Funeral Home, the Soddy Daisy Money Express, ABC Nursery and ABC Child Care.
Attorney Ray said Brown's real property is worth $1,108, 334 and his personal property is valued at $300,518.
He said secured claims are $1,355,538 and unsecured claims are $10,653,828.
Jerry Farinash, who was appointed trustee in a bankruptcy case that was forced against Brown, said Brown and his wife should be required to answer questions about the case.
He said he was able to speak with them, but he said they "were not fully cooperated."
The trustee said they refused to answer questions that were not related to their Fifth Amendment rights.
