A Whitfield County man feels merry, especially since winning a prize from the Georgia Lottery. Richard Abernathy of Rocky Face won a $50,237 jackpot prize playing Fantasy 5.

Mr. Abernathy, 55, won his prize matching all five numbers from the Saturday drawing. He claimed his prize Monday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Dalton.

Winning numbers from the drawing were: 3-11-20-21-26.

The lucky winner discovered his windfall on the Georgia Lottery’s website.

“I’m really happy,” Mr. Abernathy said. “I feel good.”

Smoke Shop & Beverage, 2709 Chattanooga Road in Rocky Face, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.4 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.2 million four-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
