Suwannee River Wilderness Trail, Wed., Jan. 2 through Sun., Jan. 6, 2013. The Suwannee is a slow moving, black water river that flows through miles of quiet, Florida backcountry. The trip will offer three days canoeing and two nights' primitive camping in the trail's special riverside campgrounds, which feature screened, shelters, rest rooms and hot showers. Bookending the canoe trip will be first and last day stays at two Florida State Parks:
Stephen Foster and
Suwannee River. Cost for the trip is $300 per person and includes all camping and canoeing gear, meals, camping fees and guides. Bike Chattanooga Scavenger Hunt at MainX24 Dec.1
The City of Chattanooga's
Bike Chattanooga Bicycle Transit System and the
Hunter Museum of American Art will host a Rolling Scavenger hunt during the
MainX24Celebration this Sat., Dec. 1, 1 p.m. at the corner of S. Main and Rossville Ave. Teams of riders will explore the Southside to find clues from Chattanooga's great public art. The grand prize is an annual membership to Bike Chattanooga.
Sandhill Crane Viewing by Kayak with the TN Aquarium Dec.1
Outdoor Chattanooga and the TN Aquarium will host a Sandhill Crane viewing trip to the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge this Sat., Dec. 1, from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Aquarium Senior Aviculturalist (e.g. bird keeper), Kevin Calhoon, will share his birding expertise about the Refuge residents, including several thousand visiting Sandhill Cranes. South Chickamauga Creek Greenway Cleanup Dec. 1
The
Chattanooga Park Stewards will host a volunteer cleanup of the S. Chickamauga Creek Greenway this Sat., Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., beginning at Sterchi Farm Park at 1900 Old Harrison Pk. Volunteers will help pick up trash, clean graffiti and do some light maintenance. Bring work gloves, a grabber if you've got one, and wear hiking boots and old clothes. The City of Chattanooga will provide trash bags.

Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge Kayak Trip Dec. 8
Join Outdoor Chattanooga for a special trip to the
Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge on Sat., Dec. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We'll kayak from Blythe Ferry to Hiwassee Island and take in the thousands of birds that call the Refuge their home this time of year. Cost is $45 per person and includes all kayaking gear, guides and transportation from Greenway Farm. Adults and kids ages 14 and older are welcome.
